Digital Foundry specialist Thomas Morgan published a technical analysis of the reissue of The Witcher 3, in which he drew attention to the Xbox Series S version of the game. The younger Microsoft console is inferior to the older Xbox Series X and PS5 in terms of resolution and lack of ray tracing.

Morgan noted that even now The Witcher 3 on Series S looks and works decently, but CD Projekt RED needs to tweak the optimization a bit. But that’s true for older consoles, too.

  • The “Quality” mode is native 1440p/30 FPS.

  • The “Productivity” mode is native 1080p/60 FPS.

  • The image in both modes, except for the resolution and the vegetation drawing range, is almost identical.

  • In “Quality” mode, The Witcher 3 on Series S delivers a steady 30 FPS, even in places where there are landings on Series X.

  • In “Productivity” in busy and complex scenes FPS varies in the range of 50-60 FPS, in Novigrad there are failures up to 40 FPS.

  • The Series S version of the game, in addition to ray tracing, lost improved reflections in the screen space (SSR).

  • The range of the “Quality” mode overtakes the Series X and becomes one level with the PS5 Morgan believes it’s a bug.

Another hotfix for the updated The Witcher 3 on PC.

Morgan is sure CD Projekt RED has a great version of The Witcher 3 for Xbox Series S that is literally missing a couple of patches.
