Epic Games has revealed the fourth chapter of the first season of Fortnite, which has a lot of new things for players to look forward to. The game will feature many new features, such as additional ways to move around including on motorcycles, snowboarding and others. Players can also expect major visual improvements.

All PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, PC and cloud owners will be able to fully experience the next generation of gameplay as the game takes advantage of the Unreal Engine 5.1 engine, which includes features such as Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps and Temporal Super Resolution.

In the blog, the developers provided details on how Fortnite uses the engine.

UE5 uses Nanite, which provides highly detailed architectural geometry. Buildings are drawn from millions of polygons in real time. Every brick, stone, wooden board and wall finish is simulated in super-detail. Improvements are also being made to natural objects, such as trees, on which every flower and leaf is modeled.

Lumen stands for high-quality ray tracing on shiny materials and water, as well as global real-time illumination at 60 frames per second. Shadows also benefit from virtual shadow maps, as even objects such as hats and other small details on characters cast shadows. Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) will allow forhigh-quality image at high frame rates.

Console players who want to use Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps and TSR on PS5 or Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will need to disable 120fps.
