The Witcher 3 Complete Edition is an ambitious release for the next generation of consoles.

One of the latest games tested by Digital Foundry this week was The Witcher 3 with an update for the latest generation of Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. The analysis revealed some interesting differences between the versions at launch.

The Xbox Series X version runs at a higher pixel count than the PS5. However, there are exceptions for example in the city of Novigrad the frame rate on Series X sometimes drops to 23 frames per second. The Series X is better than the PlayStation 5 in almost every case.

As for the performance mode, both the Xbox Series X and PS5 are usually kept at 60 frames per second, except for Novigrad, where both consoles again have shortcomings. DF argues that the Series X has a slight advantage here:.

In performance mode, the Series X has an advantage in frame rate, though a more limited drawing distance compared to the PS5.

The final verdict from the Digital Foundry team at this time:.

The Witcher 3 Complete Edition is an ambitious release for the next generation of consoles. It’s fantastic that CD Projekt RED has released the update for free. The main issues with the update at the moment are related to the stability of the crashes on PS5 and Series X. As for features, it’s odd that the Series X isn’t as packed with details as the PS5.
