Eurogamer technical expert Oliver McKenzie has released a teaser for The Callisto Protocol on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to Digital Foundry, the developers made some serious compromises, but they still didn’t achieve the ideal.
There’s been a significant downturn in almost every aspect.
Texture quality is greatly reduced, parallax occlusion and decals maps are not at all, some textures are very long to load, some are not loaded to the end.
Object geometry is simplified to the limit, shadow maps are reduced in quality.
Good quality lighting and character models.
Shadows and post-processing effects are better on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
Xbox One — 720-900p.
PlayStation 4 — 864-1080p.
Xbox One X/PS4 Pro — 1368-1440p.
The opening sequence is pre-recorded, the clips are rendered in real time in 24 frames.
The frame rate on the Xbox One is very unstable, often below 30 FPS, especially in combat; the PS4/Pro is better, but suffers from severe slowdowns.
The One X has the most consistent frame rate.
McKenzie noted that the Series S version of The Callisto Protocol is by a wide margin better than the One X version.
The Callisto Protocol was released on December 2.
