Two Mario games were released in 2022, and Nintendo only created one of them – Mario Strikers: Battle League. The second was introduced by Ubisoft Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was released in the fall. This interesting fact was pointed out by Supper Mario Broth‘s blog.
“In 2022, only two new Mario games will be on the market: Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Mario Strikers: Battle League. It was the most empty year for a Mario game in three decades, since 1990, when only Dr. Mario and Super Mario World were released.
In 2021, three games with Mario were released, in 2020 four. At the same time, in the early 2000s, Nintendo could release 15 games with a moustache plumber in the year , taking into account reprints and guest appearances of the hero.
There haven’t been any new games in the main Mario platformer series in years. The last new installment in the 3D series, Super Mario Odyssey, was released in 2017, and the 2D series in 2012. Nintendo is rumored to be preparing to relaunch the 2D series on the Nintendo Switch.
