Source code for Rayman 4 has been leaked online.

In the mid-2000s, Ubisoft and Phoenix Studio began development on Rayman 4. After a couple of months, the project was cancelled, and the game became the first Rayman Raving Rabbids title. The game was followed by two sequels, Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, but the fourth installment was never released.

To the delight of fans, the source code for Rayman 4 has been leaked online. It’s not a full game, it’s just a demonstration of some of the possibilities. For example, Ramen would get to ride mounts, and the game would have a Sphincter Cell level an obvious parody of Splinter Cell and a rude joke that was common in video games in those years.

The code also contains prototype levels. Maybe fans will learn how to use the editor, and we’ll have a full-blown project from enthusiasts with lots of levels. Users have already “dug” that the game has a level in the robot rabbit, as well as a model of the dark-skinned girl Rayman.

Ubisoft might come back to the franchise one day, but right now they’re busy playing rabbit games.
