Sony Pictures has announced the start of filming for a film based on the Gran Turismo series of racing simulators.

Along with this, the first photo from the shoot was shown, as well as a brief official description of the future tape was revealed.

According to the announcement, the film will be based on the real-life story of Gran Turismo player Jann Mardenboro, who won a series of virtual competitions and then became a real professional racer.

It was previously reported that the film will star 27-year-old Archie Madekwe (“See”, “Solstice”), and David Harbour will play a retired racer who takes to teach gamers real motorsport.

The film is directed by Neil Blomkamp (“Rayon No. 9”) from a screenplay by Jason Hall (“American Sniper”) and Zach Bailin (“King Richard”). The film is scheduled to be released on August 11, 2023.
