Neil Druckmann has revealed another detail about the future of The Last Of Us. Turns out the show is gonna be a lot less violent than the video game:.

In the game, we needed a certain amount of action or violence, which we used to get you to connect with Joel and go into a state of flow. You really felt connected to the avatar on the screen and saw the world through his eyes.

“It doesn’t work in a passive environment. It allows the violence to have a bigger impact on the audience than the game,” he says. “When you show the threat and people’s reaction to it, it makes it so much more scary” “Let’s eliminate all violence except the necessary”, he adds. And when we uncover the infected and the clicks, you can see what led to the demise of humanity and why everyone is so scared.

Drakmann’s words make sense, because in the show, Joel won’t have to kill hundreds of enemies for the sake of gameplay. The key is that the show’s creators don’t go too far with the “cutting” of violence and turn a dark and brutal story into a fairy tale for little girls.

In the series, the role of Joel was played by Pedro Pascal, and Elia Bella Ramzi. The show was created by Craig Meisin (“Chernobyl”) and Neil Drakmann, who even directed one of the episodes. The series also starred Nick Offerman, Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Lamar Johnson and Caivonn Woodard.

The Last of Us will be released on January 15. The first season will consist of 10 episodes.
