Sony still sells more consoles.

Sony’s head of gaming Jim Ryan does not consider Xbox Game Pass subscriptions to be a competing service, according to insider Tom Henderson, citing multiple sources. According to Tom’s interlocutors, Ryan voiced this opinion in early December.

In a Q&A with Sony employees, Ryan noted that Game Pass subscriber numbers are still fairly low.

Jim Ryan , head of Sony ‘s gaming division .

In two years, we sold more PlayStation 5s than they’ve had subscribers, and they’ve been doing it for six or seven years.

We’re about to hit 50 million subscribers, and they’re in the neighborhood of 20.

According to Microsoft’s own reports, Game Pass subscriptions have not been meeting their plans to attract new users for years. For example, last fiscal year, we were expecting a 78% increase in subscribers, but in reality, we were expecting a 28% increase.

It’s worth noting that PlayStation Plus subscribers aren’t growing very fast either. According to Sony’s latest report, the company lost nearly 2 million subscribers in one year, dropping from 47.2 million to 45.4 million.
