Mortal Kombat 12 will be released four years after Mortal Kombat 11.

NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boone, the creative director of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series, has some good news for fans who are eagerly awaiting the next game from the Chicago studio.

It’s been four years since Mortal Kombat 11 was released. NetherRealm Studios have worked out a schedule of releasing a new game every two years. That’s why many expected to get Injustice 3 in 2021, and then MortalKombat 12 in 2023. The latter can still happen.

It is not yet known which of the two series NetherRealm Studios is currently working on. History suggests it’s Injustice, but rumors and reports claim it’s Mortal Kombat 12. And of course, it can’t be one or the other. It could be a new franchise.

The news came from Ed Boone on Twitter, who didn’t say much, but when asked if his next game would be free, he simply said, “No”. Of course, in game development, things change all the time, but it’s safe to assume that whatever the studio is working on, it’s pretty deep in development.

NetherRealm Studios’ new project may be announced in December as part of The Game Awards 2022.
