Looks like we can take the games off the table for now.
The distribution of Death Stranding on the Epic Games Store did not go as planned: first the store gave away the expensive Director’s Cut version, then switched to the distribution of the regular edition. Now the store staff has explained how it all happened.
The Epic Games statement has only been posted on Chinese social network Weibo. According to company officials, the Death Stranding Director’s Cut was started by mistake by an Epic temp.
Last night, an Epic temp accidentally linked the standard edition of Death Stranding to the Director’s Cut. We apologize to those who couldn’t get the Director’s Cut, we’re very sorry.
Our publisher agreement was to only distribute the standard version, and our employee made a mistake. The publisher and I are discussing the next steps.
505 Games, the publisher of the PC version of Death Stranding, has yet to comment on the situation. Some players feared that the director’s cut of Death Stranding might be removed from their accounts, but this has not happened.
The free New Year’s Eve giveaway on the Epic Games Store will run until December 29.
