New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan wrote an open letter to Gabe Newell demanding an explanation for the Nazi content in Steam discussions. Valve must respond by January 15, 2023.
The publication noted that Steam had already encountered such a problem. And in 2017, William Edward Atchison posted racist messages on Steam before shooting two people at school and then himself. Also on the site was a community of one of America’s most prominent neo-Nazi organizations.
Hassan writes that she herself came across a group on Steam that used symbols of the Third Reich. The group used photos and references to members of the Wehrmacht or the Waffen-SS organization. She also noted the use of the terms 1488, Blut and Ehre, White Power. The journalists checked the links given by the politician and confirmed her words. They also found a few discussions with similar themes.
